HealthPoint Family Medicine Residency Program

Program Info & Highlights

Our residency program is dedicated to developing full-scope primary care physicians who are equipped to excel in a variety of healthcare settings, from community health centers (CHCs) to full-spectrum care environments. We provide equal emphasis on all areas of family medicine to ensure our graduates are well-prepared for the diverse challenges of primary care. Our curriculum is structured around three foundational pillars of family medicine: inpatient medicine (adult and pediatrics), obstetrics, and outpatient continuity clinic.

Curriculum Highlights and Strengths Include

Inpatient Medicine: Adults and Pediatrics

o    Residents engage in 9 months of inpatient adult medicine, working closely with family medicine attendings and a resident team in two-week blocks, allowing for longitudinal exposure to inpatient care across all three years.

o    Our pediatric inpatient experience includes a dedicated one-month rotation at Seattle Children's Hospital, where residents gain hands-on experience in caring for hospitalized children.

Obstetrics

o    Our obstetrics training includes 3 months of immersive OB rotations where residents work with family medicine attendings, OB-GYNs, and midwives in the OB department.

o    Prenatal care is provided throughout residency during continuity clinic.

o    Residents have opportunities to master OB ultrasound skills, including 1st trimester dating ultrasounds and basic OB 2nd and 3rd trimester POCUS skills

o    For residents interested in a career with a stronger OB focus, we offer an OB track that allows them to pursue obstetrics alongside outpatient medicine, further strengthening their skills in maternal and child health.

Continuity Clinic

o    Continuity of care is a cornerstone of our program. Residents maintain a regular outpatient clinic schedule throughout their three years, allowing them to build lasting relationships with patients and manage their care over time.

o    Our continuity clinic experience is enriched with specialized clinics, including procedure clinics, refugee health, and a low-barrier substance use disorder clinic. However, these visit types are not limited to specialty clinics, and procedures, prenatal care, substance use care, and the rest of the broad spectrum of family medicine remains well represented with general continuity clinics, as well.

Didactics

Our program includes a dedicated four-hour weekly didactic session that brings together all residents and faculty for collaborative learning. These sessions cover a wide range of topics, including morbidity and mortality reviews, case-based education, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), and practice management. Through active participation in these sessions, residents gain an understanding of clinical practice and shared learning within the program.

OMT/OPP

DOs have the ability to develop and practice their Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) and Osteopathic Principles and Practices (OPP) skills. Our curriculum strongly supports and integrates OMT and OPP, with dedicated DO faculty available to guide and mentor you every step of the way.
