HealthPoint Family Medicine Residency Program

We are excited to announce that our Family Medicine Residency Program has initial accreditation from Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Our Mission and Values

We are a mission-driven residency program. Review our mission below to see if you are ready to join us in making a lasting impact:

Our program is dedicated to educating family medicine physician leaders who promote, improve, and maintain the health and well-being of individuals across the lifespan through high-quality, integrated, and evidence-based care. We are committed to training family medicine physicians within a community health center setting, equipping them to partner effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds and to overcome barriers to healthcare access.

As a mission-driven program, we seek applicants who are not only passionate about clinical excellence but are also deeply motivated to serve marginalized communities. If you are inspired by a commitment to health equity and want to make a meaningful difference, we encourage you to apply.

Training Environment of Our Program

We are a mission-driven residency program at HealthPoint, dedicated to serving individuals who may otherwise lack access to healthcare. Our commitment to equity is woven into every aspect of our training environment. HealthPoint’s patient demographics reflect this mission:

- 96% of our patients live below 200% of the Federal Poverty Line.

- 70% are from racial or ethnic minority backgrounds.

- 30% require interpreter services to access care.

For over 50 years, HealthPoint has been a cornerstone of the King County community, developing innovative approaches to support our patients in overcoming socioeconomic, linguistic, and cultural barriers. Residents in our program benefit from a comprehensive training environment that includes hands-on experience in local hospitals and community settings. This dual training approach allows residents to develop the skills to provide high-quality, integrated care in diverse settings.

We invite applicants inspired by our mission and committed to health equity to join us in making a meaningful impact. For more information about HealthPoint as an organization, visit this page.

Program Information and Highlights

Our residency program is dedicated to developing full-scope primary care physicians who are equipped to excel in a variety of healthcare settings, from community health centers (CHCs) to full-spectrum care environments. We provide equal emphasis on all areas of family medicine to ensure our graduates are well-prepared for the diverse challenges of primary care. Our curriculum is structured around three foundational pillars of family medicine: inpatient medicine (adult and pediatrics), obstetrics, and outpatient continuity clinic.

1. Inpatient Medicine – Adults and Pediatrics

Residents engage in 9 months of inpatient adult medicine, working closely with family medicine attendings and a resident team in two-week blocks, allowing for longitudinal exposure to inpatient care across all three years.

Our pediatric inpatient experience includes a dedicated one-month rotation at Seattle Children's Hospital, where residents gain hands-on experience in caring for hospitalized children.

2. Obstetrics

Our obstetrics training includes 3 months of immersive OB rotations where residents work with family medicine attendings, OB-GYNs, and midwives in the OB department.

For residents interested in a career with a stronger OB focus, we offer an OB track that allows them to pursue obstetrics alongside outpatient medicine, further strengthening their skills in maternal and child health.

3. Continuity Clinic

Continuity of care is a cornerstone of our program. Residents maintain a regular outpatient clinic schedule throughout their three years, allowing them to build lasting relationships with patients and manage their care over time.

Our continuity clinic experience is enriched with specialized clinics, including procedure clinics, refugee health, and a low-barrier substance use disorder clinic.

In addition to these primary areas, we offer specialty clinic opportunities, including rotations in dermatology, urology, sports medicine, orthopedics, ENT, urgent care, and geriatrics. Our residents also complete rotations in health and wellness, population health and community medicine, and refugee health, and have six blocks dedicated to elective experiences to tailor their training to specific interests.

Didactics: Our program includes a dedicated four-hour weekly didactic session that brings together all residents and faculty for collaborative learning. These sessions cover a wide range of topics, including morbidity and mortality reviews, case-based education, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), and practice management. Through active participation in these sessions, residents gain an understanding of clinical practice and shared learning within the program.

OMT/OPP: At HealthPoint Family Medicine Residency, we offer the opportunity for DO's to develop and practice their Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) and Osteopathic Principles and Practices (OPP) skills. Our curriculum strongly supports and integrates OMT and OPP, with dedicated DO faculty available to guide and mentor you every step of the way.

Throughout the curriculum, we emphasize the importance of continuity in the clinic setting, enabling residents to follow patients over time and gain the skills needed to navigate the complexities of outpatient care. Our program provides the robust, full-spectrum training that prepares residents to thrive in diverse practice environments and meet the healthcare needs of varied populations.
