Bridging Care with Refugee Health

As the 3rd largest refugee-receiving state (47% immigrant population increase between 2000 and 2020), it’s important to provide help to refugees settling into the community. HealthPoint’s Refugee Health team was created to provide great care to refugee families. Refugee Health Program Manager, Fidelie Nawej describes the team as, “a bridge of access between resettlement agencies, partners, and medical/dental care.”

The Refugee Health team welcomes, interprets, and coordinates care for refugee families with short-term coordination services that include system education/ navigation support, community resources, appointment navigation, care coordination, and transportation. Refugee Health also has the Asylum Seekers program that provides access to important resources and health care.

Hundreds of asylum-seeking families in King County that flee from conflict in their home countries face challenges including even understanding the asylum process and navigating the healthcare systems. This program addresses healthcare access disparities for unhoused asylum-seeking families in King County through outreach care navigation, cost barrier removal, and healthcare provision to meet their important medical and long-term health needs.
